I cannot help but empathize with the North American public’s plight grappling with another price raise. In this case, not oil or fresh foods or the inevitable new taxes, but the dramatic increase of movie box office charges. Can we blame the movie chains, since it’s clear they’re capitalizing on the consumer’s willingness to dig deeper and deeper into their pockets, the clue being given by 3D. Now that movie prices in the spirit of the financial climate are going to be socking it to the public, with admissions as high as $20, and the extraordinary generosity of modern, sophisticated parents of paying for such, the bottom line is that the mental manipulation of the U.S. public is dramatically showcased by our current day politicians and now even weekly movie prices….that philosophy being:
“RAPE THE AMERICAN PUBLIC NO MATTER WHAT THEIR AGE.”

My Dear Kreskin,
Prices here in Louisiana are not quite that high. However, took a friend to the movies a few weeks ago and prices for a matinee had gone up from $5 to $7.50. But the big “rape” took place at the snack bar…large popcorn, two large drinks and a package of peanut M&M’s came to over $20….AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! Thats why I always smuggle in drinks and snacks when I am not running late…..that and the fact that Mr. Pibb is a poor substitute for Diet Dr. Pepper…..and I make it a point to leave my unauthorized beverage containers in the theater…..part of my guerrilla war against corporate theater chains….
Also, I am a big 3D fan, but prefer the older classics….House of Wax, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc…..NOT a fan of modern CG animation….it has its place, but basically, its a cheat…..cheaper than going on location, building sets, hiring stuntmen, and using real extras for “cast of thousands” epics….it has its place, especially in SciFi and comic book adaptations….but the way its being overused today, its a cheat….
Met you on two occasions after performances at La. Tech…I am, of course, a big fan. Hope to catch you again…
Sincerely yours,
Prentiss L. Powell
